Our Pathfinder Immersion Program participants brought amazing energy and adept arguments to their 6th annual mock trial at the historic Charleston County Courthouse last week. First-year Pathfinders (rising sixth graders) prosecuted and defended Jack Robinson (of Jack and the Beanstalk), who was standing trial for giant murder, while our second and third-year participants (rising seventh and eighth graders) litigated bear burglary charges against Gold E. Locks.

Our senior Pathfinders (grades 9+) acted as witnesses and jurors before our veteran bailiff, Corporal Michael Rice of the Mount Pleasant Police Department, and judge, Solicitor Scarlett Wilson chief prosecutor for the Ninth Judicial Circuit in the State of South Carolina.

The kids have been preparing for trial all summer with help from local attorneys Jeff Kuykendall and Tim Flowers and our Pathfinder Immersion Program team–Lerone Johnson, Jensen Tomberlin, Maya Timmons, Donovan Maclin, Landon Paige, Larry Goss Jr., Mary Kathryn Talledo, and Sawyer Klein. Mock trial is one of many enrichment opportunities available to teens through our Pathfinder Immersion Program, which meets daily (Monday-Friday) over the summer and weekly (on Saturdays) during the school year for golf instruction, mentorship, and STEM activities.
Closing statements are delivered and jurors deliberate.
Congratulations to all of our junior attorneys on a job well done, and special kudos to the Gold E. Locks prosecution team and Jack Robinson defense team who expertly swayed juries in their favor.
