That’s a wrap! Our 6th annual Pathfinder Immersion Program summer camp is closing out this Wednesday with a special back-to-school celebration at Charleston Fun Park.
We’re going to miss daily programming and our phenomenal team of intern coaches, but our Pathfinder family has so many wonderful summer experiences to reflect on. And the party isn’t over. We look forward to keeping in touch with our Pathfinders throughout the school year with continued enrichment activities and playdays on Saturdays.
The Pathfinder Immersion Program, which launched in 2021 to provide year-round golf and STEM opportunities, has grown to serve a diverse group of 42 students, grades 6-11. This summer, they’ve been meeting Monday-Friday at Charleston Day School.
Camp kicked off June 15 with team-building games (cleverly rebranded as “teamworkmaxxing” by our intern coaches). Campers got acquainted through relay races, tug of war, and kickball at Charleston Day (thanks so much to Catherine Skeen and the Charleston Day School team for opening their doors to us for the fourth summer in a row), and campers further flexed their teamwork skills on the ropes courses at James Island County Park.
Then our Pathfinders hit the golf course. We met weekly at Patriots Point Golf Links. Special thanks to Patriots for making space for us and to Alec Brown (Yeamans Hall Pro) and Nick Ferring (Mentor/Board Member) for helping with golf instruction this year!
We reinforced golf skills with weekly visits to Social 19, Tips Golf Club, and Topgolf (all great ways to beat the heat) and special fieldtrips to The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek, Lake Marion Golf Course, and Legend Oaks Golf Course. Our lady Pathfinders also had an opportunity to play with the Women’s Golf Association at Wild Dunes, and our boys teamed up with the Men’s Golf Association at Seabrook.
Off the golf course, our Pathfinders participated in weekly etiquette lessons, chess instruction, mock trial practice, and STEM activities with YoArt.
Our youngest Pathfinders visited long-time program partners DES, Frampton Construction, and College of Charleston, to learn about careers in engineering, construction, and scientific research. Our more senior participants leaned into academic planning, learning about post-secondary education options, state scholarships, and financial aid from Trident Technical College and ECPI University. They also honed their public speaking skills with an interactive presentation from our friends at Hudnall Capital Advisors.
Other field trips included the movies, bowling, a boat trip/shark tooth excursion, a visit to Beachwalker Park, an educational tour of the ACE Basin with DNR, and a day at Whirlin’ Waters.
